After breakfast, set off with your guide to explore the highlights of Vientiane, the capital of Laos. Begin your tour at Wat Sisaket, the oldest surviving temple in the city. This beautiful site is home to remarkable murals and over 6,000 images of the Buddha. Just nearby is Haw Phra Kaew, one of the country's most impressive collections of Buddhist art and artifacts. This elegant former temple once housed the revered Emerald Buddha, which now resides in Bangkok. Continue to Patousay, the iconic Victory Monument also known as Anousavari. Built in 1958 and inspired by the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, it’s one of the most photographed landmarks in the city. Next, visit the sacred golden stupa of Phra That Luang, Vientiane's most important religious monument and a national symbol of Laos. Originally constructed in 1566 by King Setthathirath, the stupa is believed to enshrine relics of the Buddha. Then head to Talaat Sao, or Vientiane's Morning Market. Despite its name, the market is open all day and offers a wide variety of goods, from handwoven textiles and local souvenirs to fresh produce and imported items from China and Thailand. While browsing, enjoy a cup of local Laotian coffee and sample some tasty snacks. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before heading out in the afternoon to one of the city's more unusual attractions, Xieng Khuan (Buddha Park). Located on the banks of the Mekong River, this quirky sculpture park, created in 1958, features a unique blend of Buddhist and Hindu imagery in over 200 statues. On the way, pass by the Friendship Bridge, which links Laos and Thailand, as well as the nearby National Cultural Park along the river. Afterwards, return to your hotel.
