Discover the multicultural medley of this city-state through its neighborhoods: Check out the statue-adorned temples of Little India and the colorful pagodas of Chinatown. Cruise to Singapore and explore the city's Malay section on the Kampong Glam Heritage Trail, which will take you past Arabic-influenced mansions and the gold-dome-topped Masjid Sultan mosque. Experience the contrast between the lush rainforest flora of the Singapore Botanic Garden and the high-tech "supertrees" and biodomes of Gardens by the Bay. When you arrive at Benoa, it's like hitting the Bali jackpot: You get all the beauty of this exotic location in a quiet, uncrowded setting where you can really soak it all in. Cruise to Bali and head to the beaches at Nusa Dua, with their golden sands and rocky cliff sides, or head out on a kayak in the calm waves of Tanung Benoa. Explore the Coa Eng Bio Chinese temple, a Buddhist holy site where you can see a dragon boat sculpture and the intricately decorated pagoda. Get to know the aquatic wildlife at the Bali Turtle Conservatory, or paddle through the lush greenery of the quiet, secluded Mangrove Forest.
The beaches at Nusa Dua are known for being some of Bali's cleanest and most beautiful, as well as its least crowded. Relax in the white sands at Pantai Geger — the water temperatures here are among Bali's warmest. Then, take the boat out to Turtle Island, where you can see the area's cutest aquatic animals in a protected conservation area.

Don't underestimate the size of Bali. While destinations like Kuta and Ubud appear to be close to Benoa, unpredictable driving conditions mean it's best to stay relatively closeby.
Speaking of Balinese heritage, stopping in Benoa also puts you in easy reach of the Pasifika Museum with your Bali cruise. Here, you can discover artwork both from renowned local Balinese artists and notable European immigrants, as well as historical artifacts from the greater South Pacific region.
Benoa doesn't have a central shopping area, so you'll need to visit the gift shops of local hotels for the best souvenir shopping. Popular choices include Melia Bali and the Goodway Hotel, where you can buy colorful Batik fabric or traditional Balinese incense during your Bali cruise.

This port city on Australia's Top End — the lushly forested northern tip of the province — is known for its year-round tropical climate. After you take in the ocean views at Cullen Bay Marina, cool down inside the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory. Here, you'll find collections on Cyclone Tracy, Darwin's World War II history and indigenous and Australian art. The Pier offers the best waterfront shopping experience in Cairns. Specialty shops at The Pier include Wild Sugar, a bright and bold women's clothing range by Cairns designer Sajeela Jamie. Along Abbott Street, you'll find several stores that stock Cairns-specific souvenirs, including kangaroo leather products and items inspired by the local rainforest.
The Esplanade Lagoon is a man-made pool on the foreshore. With its sandy edges and saltwater from the Trinity Inlet in Cairns, it's the city's most visited attraction. While you're here, stroll on the boardwalk, where you'll find fitness equipment, playgrounds and volleyball courts.

It's the mainland town that allows the easiest access to the 74 incredible Whitsunday Islands — take the ferry out and spend your day relaxing by clear aqua waters at Whitehaven Beach or snorkeling among the heart-shaped portion of the Great Barrier Reef, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Or stick to the mainland: Walk the Bicentennial Walkway along the Airlie Beach waterfront, popping into a cafe for a late-morning flat white (the Australian signature latte). Take a dip in Airlie Beach Lagoon, or head to Conway National Park, where you can hike your way through rain forest to panoramic views of the city and the harbor.
Doing a half or full-day trip to the Whitsunday Islands is the thing to do in Airlie Beach. For best Great Barrier Reef experience, do a tour to Hardy Reef's pontoon. There are also half-day trips available to both South Molle Island and award-winning Whitehaven Beach.

Airlie Beach's Main Street is very walkable from end to end, so there's no need for public transport.
Located in the town center, the Airlie Beach Lagoon is a free, self-chlorinated swimming pool. The Lagoon is surrounded by grassed areas, barbecue facilities and swaying palm trees for sunbathing or reading in the shade. There's also a children's pool and sandy beach area attached to the Lagoon.
The Airlie Beach Saturday Markets happens on the foreshore every Saturday. Drop by and browse the local art, craft and clothing stalls for a unique souvenir. PAYA Boutique also stocks a wide range of hand-selected fashion and lifestyle products, including women's fashion, accessories, jewelry, home wares and gifts.
Airlie Beach is not only an ocean gateway. Conway National Park — and its regional parks — are located minutes from Airlie Beach. The area is known for its lush rain forest, seasonal waterfalls, scenic lookouts and walking and biking trails. Locals recommend the easy Coastal Fringe Circuit, a 1.2-kilometer (0.7-mile) track.
