The immersive Sound and Light show at the iconic Qaitbay Citadel in Alexandria offers a truly captivating experience that transports visitors through the rich and fascinating history of one of Egypt’s most celebrated cities. Set against the dramatic backdrop of this ancient fortress, the show combines advanced lighting technology, stunning visual projections, and historical narration to breathe life into the city’s storied past. As visitors are seated within the imposing walls of the citadel, the stone architecture becomes a canvas for vibrant images that depict Alexandria’s pivotal role in history. The lights and projections sweep across the centuries, starting from the city’s foundation by Alexander the Great, moving through its period as a major hub of learning and culture during the Hellenistic period, and exploring its influence through the Roman and Islamic eras. The show also highlights the architectural and cultural wonders that once defined the city, such as the famous Lighthouse of Alexandria, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, and the legendary Library of Alexandria, which was the intellectual heart of the ancient Mediterranean. Through vivid and detailed projections, visitors can witness these long-lost marvels as they would have appeared in their heyday. As the history of Alexandria unfolds, the narrations—offered in multiple languages—detail the lives of key figures who shaped the city’s destiny, including its rulers, scholars, and visionaries. El Alamein is the place where the Allied forces of WWII gained a decisive victory of the Axis Forces. Today, the village located about 66 miles east of Alexandria, is mostly a port facility for shipping oil. However, it was once described by Churchill as having the best climate in the world. There are several hotels and a beach resort nearby. There is also a war museum with collectibles from the Battle of El Alamein and other North African battles. The only historical interest in this village would be related to WWII, and includes an Italian and German military cemeteries on Tell el Eisa Hill just outside of town.
