Overview

Trip Overview

This 5-day Maltese vacation explores the archipelago nation, visiting Valletta, the Three Cities, and the sister island of Gozo. It features first-class accommodations and private tours.

Your journey takes you to Malta, an ancient archipelago nation in the Mediterranean that has long been one of Europe’s most diverse countries. Get your bearings and enjoy an introduction to Maltese history with a full-day private tour of Valletta and the Three Cities. Explore the ancient infrastructure and medieval landmarks of the capital, including the elevated ramparts of Barraca Gardens and the centres of the Order of St. John: St. John’s Cathedral and the Grand Master’s Palace. After an optional three-course gourmet lunch, continue to the Three Cities of Vittoriosa, Cospicua, and Senglea to walk through narrow medieval streets, ride a traditional boat along the city creeks, and enjoy the panoramic view of the Grand Harbour.

Another day, explore some of the unspoiled villages on the island, heading through quiet medieval piazzas and sleepy fishing villages to the Blue Grotto, where the stunning blue waters reflect the jagged rocks of the sea caverns. Finish the tour in a fishing village where you’ll see the traditional luzzu (boats) painted in their vibrant reds, blues, and yellows. The next day, explore the sister island of Gozo on a full-day private tour. Visit the ancient temples of Ggantija and the Place of Giants, some of the oldest prehistoric temples in the world, feast on an optional three-course Maltese lunch, and cap off the tour with stops at Dwejra and the Cittadella of Victoria.

At the end of your stay, connect back to the airport to return home.

Treasures of Malta Private Tour: Valetta & The Three Cities

On this private tour, you will depart for Malta's capital city for a guided tour through the bustling streets of Valletta. In Valletta, you will have the opportunity to see a multi-vision show, Malta Experience, depicting 7000 years of Maltese history (optional). Then you will proceed to the Barraca Gardens - built on the elevated Bastion ramparts commending panoramic views of the Grand Harbour and the three cities. Later, visit St. John's Cathedral (optional) - this splendid church was originally the conventual church of the Order of St. John. With it's fine Baroque architecture, elaborate Grand Masters monuments and exclusive precious works of art including a Caravaggio - it will be a fascinating tour. After the Cathedral you will see from the outside the Grand Masters Palace which is the residence of the President of Malta. Spend some free time in Valletta.

After lunch you will head to the Southern part of the island to discover the historical area known as the Three Cities: Vittoriosa, Cospicua & Senglea. A drive past Cospicua will bring you to Vittoriosa where you walk through the various narrow streets shaded by many historic buildings and churches. From the old quay you can take a typical 'fregatina' (boat) for a tour of the famous harbor creeks (optional, subject to weather conditions). In Senglea you will be able to admire the panorama from the beautiful 'vedette' placed in the center of the Grand Harbour.

Blue Grotto and Marsaxlokk Private Tour

Venture to the rural and authentic part of the islands to the charming town of Marsaxlokk. Located in the extreme southern tip of the island, together with the guide, you will be led to a Maltese piazza (square) along winding narrow streets. The town oozes with historical references to its past as it was the first place the Phoenicians landed. Today, it is a quiet town, with a picturesque bay and gives its name to the large and bustling fish market. Join a tour to the Blue Grotto (optional, weather permitting). Enjoy the natural beauty of the caves against the deep blue waters. Lastly, you will visit the main fishing village with its 'luzzus' painted in traditional reds, blues and yellows that add color to this peaceful bay. There will be free time to spend browsing around the local market stalls.

Today you will start the day early in order to visit Malta's sister island of Gozo. Gozo, is barely 20 minutes away from the mainland and offers a unique Mediterranean setting. It is an island where time has stood still, where traditions and customs form part of the daily life of the Islanders. It offers beautiful scenic views as most of the population still follow their forefathers trades of farmers and fishermen. During this excursion, visit the Temples of Ggantija or Place of Giants (optional), which is the only major prehistoric site on the Island of Gozo. The temple is among the oldest and best preserved in the world. You will also visit the inland sea in Dwejra, Ta' Pinu Church, Xlendi Bay and the Citadella in Victoria. Free time for shopping will also be given as Gozo is well known for its woolen goods and handmade lace.
