Your journey through the Baltics begins in Vilnius, the Lithuanian capital and home to one of the most splendid Old Towns in Eastern Europe. You’ll discover this Old Town on a walking tour that takes you alongside the 1,200 Gothic and Baroque buildings that define the area. You’ll learn about the history of Lithuania and stop by landmarks such as Vilnius Cathedral, the Old University which is the oldest in Eastern Europe, and the busy shopping area of Pilies Street, where you can buy some souvenirs. The tour ends at the Gates of Dawn, where you’ll find the miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary. While based in Vilnius, you’ll take a day trip to the second-largest city in Lithuania, Kaunas. Explore the Old Town of Kaunas, visit the castle which is the oldest in the country, and enjoy the view of the red roofs and shimmering river from Aleksotas Hill. End the tour at the Pazaislis Camaldolese Monastery, a Baroque landmark that passed hands over the years before being returned to its original order after Lithuanian independence.
Leave Lithuania behind and head into Latvia to the capital, Riga, where you’ll head on a walking tour to discover the maze-like Old Town. Swing by the cathedral and admire the unique facade of the House of Blackheads building before reaching the famously narrow Rozena Street, where you can’t stretch out your arms fully without reaching both sides of the street. Stop by the Black Magic Bar to enjoy the witchy atmosphere and try some handmade treats before continuing to the Central Market, which was the most advanced marketplace in Europe when it opened in 1930. Shop for some souvenirs or treats before enjoying a traditional Latvian lunch, such as a dill and herring sandwich.
Bid farewell to Latvia and connect into Estonia and the capital, Tallinn, where you’ll discover the unique flavours of Estonian cooking. Journey through the Old Town and the Kalamaja Quarter and make six or seven stops to try sprat sandwiches, creamy pumpkin soups, dark rye bread, and kali, which mixes beer and cola, at various taverns, cafes, markets, and delis. The next day, head on an excursion to the gorgeous landscape of Lahemaa National Park, where you will see beautiful historic manors, such as Sagadi Manor, swing by 500-year-old fishing villages such as Altja and Kasmu, and have the chance to stroll through an old beach forest and ponder the mystery of the Vana-Jurid kivid, huge stone boulders with an unknown origin.
After a final night in Tallinn, you’ll head to the airport to connect to your next destination or return home.
