Today you will learn about the two characters of Lima: the modern one, reflected in the districts of Miraflores and San Isidro; and the historic one, encapsulated in its historic center declared a World Cultural Heritage by UNESCO. Along the tour through different districts of the city, you will see how the old and the modern coexist in buildings such as the Museum of Italian Art, Palace of Justice, Museum of Lima, Plaza San Martín, among others. With your private guide leading the way, you'll explore the center of Lima on foot, with the Main Square as the focal point: a beautiful colonial square worthy of photographs, surrounded by emblematic buildings such as the Government Palace, the Cathedral and the Archbishop's Palace. You will also have the opportunity to enter one of the most iconic ecclesiastical spaces in Lima, the Convent of Santo Domingo, also declared Cultural Heritage of Humanity, and where the relics of three Peruvian saints are found: Santa Rosa de Lima, San Martín de Porres and San Juan Macías. The tour would not be complete without a visit to the Rafael Larco Herrera Museum, one of the most important in the country, exhibiting a valuable collection of almost 45,000 pieces of pre-Hispanic cultures, especially the Mochicas. Marvel at the quality of its pieces of jewelry, textiles and its enigmatic erotic room, dedicated to ceramics alluding to fertility, and after exploring the museum, you will be returned to your hotel.

Sulca Textiles Museum Visit - Cusco to the Sacred Valley

Upon arrival to Cusco Airport, please collect your baggage and head to the arrivals area. Here you will be greeted by a local assistant holding a sign with your name on it. Your journey toward the Sacred Valley soon begins, passing through the charming Imperial City of Cusco. Along the way, stop for special visit to the Sulca Museum, where Peru's textile history is showcased through unique pieces recreated by the talented Sulca family, inspired by Pre-Columbian, Inca, Colonial, and Contemporary cultures, and crafted using ancestral techniques. It is the perfect place to acquire your first authentic souvenir from the Andes. You will then continue toward your hotel in the Sacred Valley, crossing majestic mountains and fertile fields, and typically arriving in the early afternoon.

Boleto Tourism Card

The Boleto Tourism Card (BTC) allows you to access archeological and cultural sites in Cusco and the Sacred Valley. The BTC is a mandatory requirement for travellers visiting the area, and is included in your itinerary.

Altitude Acclimatization in the Sacred Valley

Sitting somewhat lower than Cusco, the Sacred Valley offers a gentler introduction to Andean altitude; still, a relaxed afternoon remains the wisest start to your adventure. Ranging from roughly 6,750 to 9,800 feet (2,050 to 3,000 meters) above sea level, let the extraordinary landscape welcome you to the region. Sweeping valley views, terraced hillsides, and comfortable accommodations are more than enough to fill a few hours as your body adjusts to the mountain elevation. Drink plenty of water, take things slowly, and eat lightly at dinner to ensure you're ready for the adventures ahead.

Sol y Luna

My name is Marie Hélene Miribel, but everybody calls me simply Petit. Following my heart, I left a successful corporate life for the Sacred Valley of the Incas, to live my dream of improving the future for some of the world’s poorest children. In my husband Franz, I met the perfect match. I have tons of ideas for how to educate these children, and Franz possesses the gifts to build and realize these audacious dreams. In 1999, we started an education project for the local children, many of whom walked for hours each day to get to a school in poor condition or did not go at all. Working within the existing social fabric proved invaluable to understanding the realities of schools and families around the Sacred Valley. To support our education initiatives in the most economically sustainable way given Sacred Valley’s potential for tourism, in 2000 we decided to build a hotel.

Sol y Luna

Immerse yourself in the ancient traditions and bold flavors of the Sacred Valley on this curated and private-guided culinary experience. Begin with an exploration of the region's exceptional coffee, following the journey from raw bean to roasted perfection while discovering the unique aromas and profiles that make Andean coffee so distinctive. Next, step into an artisanal distillery to craft your very own Andean spirit, a personalized blend of sugarcane aguardiente, fresh garden herbs, and traditional aromatic ingredients, sealed in a keepsake bottle that will continue developing for months ahead. The experience culminates with a Pachamanca feast, one of the Andes' most celebrated culinary traditions; chicken, pork, lamb, Andean potatoes, and organic vegetables slow cooked in an earthen stone oven, enjoyed surrounded by mountains and ancient archaeological remains. After a delicious day of discovery and connection, you'll be returned to your hotel in the Sacred Valley.

Private Tour of Ollantaytambo

Your adventure today brings you to one of the most important places in the Sacred Valley of the Incas: the town of Ollantaytambo. A window to the country's Incan past, it is an emblematic place where Manco Inca defeated the Spanish in the year 1537. Begin by walking through its characteristic cobblestone streets, surrounded by adobe houses, before heading towards the fascinating archaeological complex, which was a military, religious and agricultural center. There, you will climb the steep stone steps to admire the monoliths that make up the Temple of the Sun, learning a little about Inca astronomy and the impressive architecture seen throughout the archaeological site. Ollantaytambo, its platforms and its fortress are a perfect testimony of the extraordinary skill of the Incas in construction and planning. Please note, the fortress of Ollantaytambo can be considered moderately challenging to explore and requires decent mobility and fitness levels. At the end of your tour, you will be delivered to Ollantaytambo train station or returned to your hotel in the Sacred Valley, pending on your onward travel plans.

Luggage Transfer Service

As there are strict luggage restrictions in place on board the train to Aguas Calientes, a luggage transfer service has been arranged to bring your additional belongings to Cusco. Once you have completed your experience in and around Machu Picchu, your baggage will be ready and waiting for you in Cusco.

Vistadome Observatory Train - Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes

At the scheduled time, board the Vistadome Observatory Train with service to Aguas Calientes, the penultimate stop on your way to Machu Picchu. The train cars of the Vistadome Observatory are defined by comfortable seats, panoramic windows, ambient music and three impressive carriages – the panoramic, observation and bar carriages – that you are welcome to explore and which perfectly complement the spectacular scenery that accents the trip to Aguas Calientes; be sure to have your camera ready as there are seemingly endless opportunities for gorgeous pictures. As you travel to Aguas Calientes, you are welcome to purchase a range of food and beverages from the on-board service (additional cost), and will also be offered a complimentary snack.

Classic Circuit - 2A - Lower Terrace

This route begins at the lower terrace, where you will have the chance to capture some fantastic panoramic pictures of the citadel. Continuing onward, you'll soon explore the urban and religious sector of Machu Picchu, including the Temple of the Sun, the Main Temple, the Temple of the Three Windows, the Sacred Rock, the Temple of the Condor, the Water Fountains, and more. Widely considered to be among the most comprehensive circuits to tour Machu Picchu, you'll explore the complex for 2 hours and 30 minutes alongside your local private guide before completing the route.

Panoramic Circuit - 1A - Machu Picchu Mountain

On this circuit, you'll have the opportunity to catch classic postcard perfect photos of Machu Picchu from the viewpoint of the Guardian's House. You will also be provided access to Machu Picchu Mountain, and invited to hike up and down the trail, a journey that typically takes between one and two hours. Along the way, you will ascend some 650 meters (roughly 2,130 feet), with a particularly challenging stretch featuring large steps encountered toward the end of the route. Guests with a fear of heights, vertigo, or mobility issues may wish to forego this activity. Also worth noting is that while the trail is wide for most of the way, there are narrow, steep sections as you progress and climb higher. However, the rewards for your efforts are apparent from the moment you reach the top. The panoramic views of Machu Picchu and Huayna Picchu (further distant) are among the most impressive possible.

Hiram Bingham Train - Aguas Calientes to Cusco

At the scheduled time, board the Hiram Bingham Train with service to Cusco. Named after the explorer who rediscovered the Inca citadel in 1911, the train has two dining cars, an observation car equipped with a bar and a kitchen car. Decorated in the style of 1920's Pullman carriages, each has been furnished in polished wood and brass with large comfortable armchairs. As you board, the tables are exquisitely set with gleaming crystal and polished cutlery. En route to Cusco, you will settle in for an impressive dinner, specially crafted by the on board chef. Easily the most luxurious way to travel from Aguas Calientes to Cusco, sit back and enjoy the delights of the Hiram Bingham Train.

Inkaterra La Casona

Inkaterra presents an exquisite 16th century mansion meticulously restored. Inkaterra La Casona is a colonial manor house - perhaps the first Spanish construction in Cusco - centrally located on an Incan settlement near Cusco's present-day main square, later occupied by the conquistadores of Peru and their descendants. Eleven suites surround a sumptuous courtyard, where the patina of time is tastefully preserved. Contemporary amenities create the ambience of comfort and exclusivity enjoyed by residents in centuries past.

Inkaterra La Casona

This charming half-day tour of Cusco offers history, living culture and art. You will be able to appreciate how the Andean and Spanish cultures, as well as the past and the present, coexist in harmony in the Imperial City. Begin the day exploring the halls of the San Pedro Market, the oldest in the city. Designed in 1925 by Gustave Eiffel, today it brings together hundreds of merchants selling local products. You will also visit Koricancha Temple, which during the Inca empire was a center of worship of the Sun, and upon which the Santo Domingo Convent was later built as part of the evangelization process. Its baroque style facade built on solid Inca walls perfectly summarizes the syncretism of cultures in the city of Cusco. To appreciate the greatness of the Incas, ascend to the monumental fortress of Sacsayhuaman, which - with its enormous carved stone walls - constitutes one of the best examples of Inca military architecture. Later, you will tour the archaeological center of Kenko, a ceremonial place where the sun, the moon and the stars were worshiped. The final stop of the day is one of the most impressive; the Cathedral, widely considered the most important temple in the city. It was built by the Spanish on top of the palace of the Inca Huiracoha. Its interior houses a wonderful collection of colonial art composed of goldsmith pieces and representative canvases of the Cusco School of Art. Following your private tour of the city, you will be returned to your hotel.

Meeting the Riberenos Communities

After a leisurely breakfast on board, get set to visit a local village community of the Amazon Basin. Riberenos, or river people, have distinct cultures and practices, and love to share their customs with visitors to the region. That in mind, spend some time to see, for example, how piranha teeth are often used in local crafts, and later take the opportunity to fish for these fascinating omnivores from a skiff, catching and carefully releasing them in this unique corner of the world. Following your community visit, return to Pure Amazon for another relaxing evening.
